Real & artificial lawns
in Hereford.

Whether you want the look and feel of real turf or a low-maintenance artificial lawn that stays green year-round, we handle the whole job from the ground up. That starts with proper ground preparation and levelling. For artificial grass we install a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base and a geotextile membrane before the grass goes down, so the surface drains freely, holds its shape, and doesn't sink or wrinkle over time. For real turf we level the soil, add more quality soil if it's needed, and lay rolls of quality turf.

Common questions about lawns & turfing.

Real turf looks and feels natural, supports wildlife, and works well in gardens that get reasonable light and aren't under heavy foot traffic year-round. Artificial grass is the better choice if you want something that stays green with minimal upkeep — no mowing, no bare patches from wear, and it handles shade and clay soils that real turf struggles in. Both are proper investments; we'll talk through your garden and how you use it when we come to quote, so you end up with the right one.
Good ground prep is what separates a lawn that lasts from one that fails in the first season. For real turf we remove existing vegetation, break up and level the soil, correct any significant bumps or hollows, add or remove soil where necessary and create a firm bed before laying. For artificial grass the excavation goes deeper — we dig out to the right depth, remove the soil, compact a MOT Type 1 sub-base, and lay a weed membrane before the grass goes down.
Artificial grass needs a free-draining sub-base to stop water pooling on or under the surface. We use a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, which allows water to drain through while keeping the surface stable. The grass itself has perforations throughout, and the sub-base channels water away naturally. Done correctly, an artificial lawn drains as fast as — or faster than — real turf.
A typical domestic lawn takes one to three days depending on size and condition. Artificial grass generally takes longer than real turf because of the additional excavation and sub-base work. We'll give you a realistic timescale when we visit.
